Connectivism Mindmap

  • How has your network changed the way you learn?
    • I know this seems odd but networking has not changed the way I learn.  Personally I like to do things alone.
  • Which digital tools best facilitate learning for you?
    • None of these tools are better then the other for me.  I have been struggling with blogging, wikis and Google Plus.  When it comes to collaboration I have struggled.
  • How do you learn new knowledge when you have questions?
    • When I have questions I would rather go up to someone and ask them face to face or read the information in a book or online myself.

I also like to do things alone, but when I use network I still feel that I learn independently. I think that online collaboration is more flexible than face-to-face: if you do not think that you benefit from a particular contact, you can disconnect any time.
Why do you think you struggle with collaboration? I agree, some tools are not very easy to use and sometimes I have difficulties too, but I found myself enjoying blogging. I also like to communicate with my family and close friend through Facebook when they live far away.
Similar to you, I try to answer all my questions on my own and before if I needed help, first of all I contacted my friend or coworkers. Now, I have to admit, my first source of information is the Internet.
I like your map: it is very creative.

Hello Sadie!
Your mind map is great! Which software did you use to create your mind map? I also sometimes struggle with collaboration. Collaboration is a great component to education. Which tools do you think are hard to use when dealing with collaboration.

I have to admit that blogging has been a good thing. Working with a wiki has been a different story. Gaining access to my groups work has been difficult and everyone has been really busy. I am in a very small group and we are having trouble getting together on our assignments.

I used Edraw Mind Map 6. It is great and it has the capabilities to save in different formats which I have found great for this class and blogging.

It's interesting that you say you like to work alone more than with others. I generally like to collaborate, but I have been in situations where the group dynamics make it harder to work with others than to work alone.

I think, in such cases, I've noticed that it's often the collaborative skills of others in the group that make the difference. I've long felt that collaboration is very challenging, and takes hard work and skill of all the participants. Unfortunately, if a few of the members aren't at the same level of commitment or skill, the groups generally suffer greatly.

What do you think?
